The topics of sustainability, digitalization, and health have been shaping public discourse since well before the coronavirus pandemic, and have long been a focus of consulting due to their inherent growth potential and opportunities. It is therefore high time for two exciting keynote speeches to inspire the dedicated students of the student consulting firm Janus e.V. from Hanover to engage with these topics.
The joint workshop took place digitally with approximately 15 participants. Speakers Thorsten von der Straten, Sascha Rühmann, and Martin Fleischhacker presented insights into the individual consulting fields of a management consultancy. The healthcare sector offers sustainable growth potential, driven in part by the megatrend of digitalization, new legal frameworks, and increasing pressure for efficiency in the market. The i-unit group is supporting various exciting projects in this area with a range of tasks, from IT implementation and personnel development to strategy and financing for further growth.

Sustainability concepts and the associated pressure to innovate are increasingly finding their way into small and medium-sized enterprises and also offer enormous growth potential for companies. In addition to stricter legal regulations and controls on supply chains, it is above all conscious consumers who ensure that sustainably positioned companies achieve economic advantages. Successful sustainability management and positive sustainability ratings improve the company’s image and can inspire young employees in particular. Sustainability no longer means a competitive disadvantage, but is developing into a competitive advantage and will become the new standard in the medium term.

The lively participation of the attendees in the subsequent discussion was particularly well received at this event. Further workshops are in preparation.

Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Ratings
Within the framework of corporate social responsibility (CSR), a company’s commitment to sustainable business practices is assessed using criteria relating to environmental, social, and governance issues.
Depending on the industry to which the company being evaluated belongs, these three factors may be weighted differently.
The environmental aspect of ESG criteria assesses how a company treats its biological environment. The specific assessments are currently based largely on companies’ sustainability reports. Factors such as waste production, water and energy consumption, and pollutant emissions are used for the assessment.
Companies deal with social environments and their internal and external processes. Recognized issues such as working conditions, human rights, and consumer protection are addressed in the social aspect of ESG. The third area of ESG is corporate governance. Management structures, profit sharing, and salary regulation play a role here. Corporate scandals in particular make it necessary to take a close look at corporate governance. These scandals can usually be traced back to management structures and regulations.
