ChatGPT in recruiting

The ongoing development of artificial intelligence has transformed recruiting, and ChatGPT is playing an increasingly important role in this. As a powerful AI model, ChatGPT can take on a variety of tasks in recruiting. From drafting texts and responses to answering frequently asked questions and searching for candidates, ChatGPT can provide valuable support to HR managers. This article explores the various tasks that ChatGPT can successfully perform in recruiting and how it can optimize the selection process.

Part of this article was completed with minimal effort thanks to AI—ChatGPT wrote this introduction in less than 10 seconds, and it is not apparent that it was written by AI.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is currently attracting a lot of attention and gaining popularity—but what exactly is it? ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by the OpenAI foundation that uses artificial intelligence to answer text questions and queries. It draws on knowledge from a large amount of data from various sources, enabling ChatGPT to understand text and communicate with users.

Potential areas of application for ChatGPT in recruiting

With the increasing popularity of ChatGPT, there is growing discussion about the areas in which the chatbot could offer added value and, above all, the extent to which it could simplify certain professions. Since it is extremely important to enable candidates to apply quickly, particularly due to the shortage of skilled workers in the field of recruiting, recruiters are faced with the question of which work steps can be made more efficient and, accordingly, to what extent ChatGPT can potentially support this. Some examples of this would be:

  • Writing job advertisements and descriptions, especially for different target groups (e.g., different industries, age groups, career levels, etc.)
  • Developing appealing texts for the career page to attract as many applicants as possible to the company and its vacancies
  • Formulating job titles and various alternatives to job descriptions
  • Designing interview guidelines
  • Generating LinkedIn posts or providing ideas for them, as well as writing entire blog posts
  • Formulating texts for direct contact and emails (e.g., rejection emails, interim notifications, invitations to interviews)
  • Suggesting keywords and Boolean operators for active sourcing

This opens up a number of possibilities for ChatGPT to simplify the work of recruiters. Processes can be made more efficient, enabling enormous time savings and support from the chatbot. This can be a decisive advantage in recruiting in particular, as applicants can be given faster feedback and the risk of them already progressing in other application processes while their applications are still being processed in your own company is reduced. This relieves recruiters of comparatively unpleasant tasks and gives them more freedom for creative and interpersonal tasks. In addition, ChatGPT can be used to gain inspiration for certain aspects and improve content by quickly gathering ideas and suggestions.

Ultimately, however, it is inconceivable that ChatGPT could replace the work of recruiters and the human aspect of this work. In our view, personal contact with applicants in particular will continue to be essential in the future. ChatGPT may create efficiency potential in the background, but it cannot offer the core competencies of a recruiter.
