On March 26, it was that time of year again: the Volkswagen Halle in Braunschweig hosted the annual Charity Cup organized by Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. With a record participation of 28 teams, or nearly 140 participants, the focus was not only on winning and losing, but above all on shooting hoops for a good cause.
A great start to the group stage
After the warm-up and official welcome, the Charity Cup kicked off with the group stage. The i-unit group team had to prove itself in a total of three games in the group stage. Under the watchful eye of their coach, our colleagues Sascha Rühmann, Sebastian Rebischke, Fabian Hamel, Jesper Heye, and Diego Espino, who made up this year’s i-unit group team, worked hard to score baskets. With a flawless record in the group stage and three wins out of three, we advanced to the quarterfinals as group winners. Unfortunately, our team then had to admit defeat against the BS|ENERGY team.
A great fundraising success
It is particularly pleasing that this year’s Charity Cup raised over €5,000 in donations. This year, the donations will go to two recipients: BASKETBALL AID e.V. and the Löwenherz children’s hospice.
A big thank you goes to Basketball Löwen Braunschweig for organizing such a great event. We would also like to thank our colleagues who took the time to participate on our behalf. We are already looking forward to the next Charity Cup!
