Braunschweig, January 11, 2020: Hannover 96 defends its title at the traditional B-Youth soccer tournament of BSC Acosta in the Franzsches Feld sports hall.
Around 800 spectators watched exciting, high-level matches between teams from six clubs of the Niedersachsen League, Regional League, and Bundesliga. Host BSC Acosta even sent two teams into the competition.
Tournament organizer Frank Mengersen was thoroughly satisfied: “Great atmosphere, strong turnout from spectators, impressive commitment from the many helpers, technically excellent and pleasantly fair youth football of a high standard.”
Defending champion Hannover 96 won the final convincingly with a 6:1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, which had advanced to the final by defeating Tennis Borussia Berlin in the semifinals.
The host teams from BSC Acosta, competing from the lowest league level, managed to achieve some notable successes in the group stage against Verl, Babelsberg, and Wolfsburg, but could not maintain this level in the intermediate round and eventually had to concede to the later tournament winner Hannover 96 in the knockout stage.
In the third-place playoff, Eintracht Braunschweig beat Tennis Borussia Berlin 4:2 to secure bronze. SV Babelsberg took fifth place with a narrow 3:2 win against BSC Acosta “White,” while SC Verl finished seventh with a 4:3 victory over BSC Acosta “Black.”
Around midday, the “ERIMA-SMU jersey BSC Acosta” was unveiled. The self-designed club jersey of BSC Acosta, part of a three-year partnership with supplier Erima, was presented to the public for the first time.
At the same time, coordinators Frank Mengersen and BSC Acosta president Andreas Monke presented the new project “BSC Acosta becomes an Erima club” to the many visitors in a lively interview with Patrick Kossatz, Head of Erima North.
