Under this motto, the profil² team held a two-hour workshop on January 29, 2020, in cooperation with the Welfenakademie. The aim of the workshop was to work with companies from the region to develop solution strategies for the upcoming transition from G8 to G9 and the associated shortage of trainees.
Status quo in the school system
In a relaxed and productive working atmosphere, following welcoming remarks from the Welfenakademie represented by Mr. Roth and Dr. Bölscher, profil² first provided a deeper insight into the general consequences of the change in the Lower Saxony school system. Instead of 27,000, there will only be 5,000 high school graduates this year! In 2019, 53,000 training places were already unfilled. And in the age of Snapchat, Instagram, and the like, where is Generation Z actually looking for a training place, i.e., their employer of choice?
Solutions and strategies
After an informative introduction by Lisa Anders (profil²), the workshop portion commenced, during which small groups sought solutions for how companies could better integrate social media into their own recruiting strategies or even implement a shared trainee model as a new approach.
Conclusion
The participating companies showed that the topic of recruiting trainees is a high priority in the region. Employers are aware that they need to adapt to the new needs of the next generation and adjust their employer branding strategy in order to successfully master the “war for talent.”
