Cybersecurity for businesses
On September 21, 2023, the event “Cybersecurity for Businesses” took place at Volksbank Wolfenbüttel. In addition to Michael Rode and Denis Seefeldt from i-data GmbH, Michael Engelkemper from ATD Systemhaus and Udo Heinemann from R&V Versicherung also spoke at the event.
“Beware of cyber attacks – would you have noticed?”
In their presentation, Denis Seefeldt and Michael Rode demonstrated how potential attackers can gain access to a company’s IT structure via the human firewall (the human gateway). To underscore their point, they presented media reports and a security speedometer from Telekom that illustrated the current cyberattacks.
Highlight: Live demonstration of a realistic cyber attack
The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly the live demonstration, in which a realistic attack was reenacted. Team Red sent Team Blue a fake invoice from Telekom with a compromised attachment. As soon as Team Blue opened the attachment, it became clear how sophisticated and dangerous these attacks can be. The opened attachment gave Team Red access to Team Blue’s laptop. This access allowed them to take photos via the webcam and steal files – a frightening demonstration of how quickly you can become a victim of cybercrime.
Awareness training or phishing simulation as an awareness strategy
Following this presentation, i-data outlined strategies for raising employee awareness. It became clear how important it is to inform staff about the dangers and how to recognize phishing emails and fake attachments before an incident occurs. When receiving an email, employees can verify the sender’s authenticity by clicking on “Reply” to see the original sender’s email address.
